The incumbent supports the Financial Controller in ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient execution of day-to-day accounting, financial operations, best practices, and good governance. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with reconciliations, and supporting internal controls, thereby contributing to the smooth functioning of the Finance Department and the overall financial health of the organization
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage Cash Flow
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for consideration and approval by Management
Monitor Internal Controls
- Ensure the integrity of the General Ledger by supervising all GL activity and approval
- Oversee and manage the weekly payroll process for accuracy and timeliness
- Ensure all statutory and salary payments are consistent with operating schedules
- Manage the reconciliation of billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Payroll, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue
- Manage all the monthly journals for the company
- Direct supervision of the Accounting and Payroll staff; indirect supervision of the inventory team
Budget Preparation
- Assist in the preparation of the budget and financial forecast, and report variances
- Support the Financial Controller in providing designated department heads with historical spending information using various general Ledger coding
Ensuring Financial Compliance
- Prepare VAT, Green Fund, and Business Levy computations
- Keep up to date with I.F.R.S.
- Assist with the month-end and year-end close process
- Conduct internal audits of financial transactions and documents to ensure proper compliance with accounting standards and regulations
- Assist in the preparation process of financial statements, ensuring accuracy throughout the process
Mentor Financial Staff
- Assist in the proper planning, monitoring, and evaluation for work carried out by accounting/payroll staff
- Maintains a high level of productivity through coaching and mentoring of team members
Any other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education, Experience:
Level II ACCA qualified
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or a related field
At least 3 years in a supervisory position, preferably in a retail environment.
Thorough and competent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite
Must have excellent Analytical and Conceptual Skills.
Proficient accounting software user and administrative skills
Must have excellent oral and written skills.
Must be able to work with teams.
Must have an unblemished Integrity record.
Must have great interpersonal skills.
Must be a highly confidential person.
